If you're a Bitdefender partner (or you decide to become one) you get a great new Ransomware Vaccine that immunises end-users against both existing and emerging ransomware attacks – at no additional cost!
All you have to do to switch the Ransomware Vaccine on is enable it in the customer's policy. Simply tick the box as shown in the screenshot below.
Ransomware programs are created with a mechanism to prevent other programs from infecting a machine it is already present on.
The Vaccine uses ransomware’s own programming against it, to immunise uninfected machines – exactly like a human vaccine does.
It basically tricks ransomware into believing the machine is already infected which means ransomware won’t want to re-infect it. Ransomware usually checks for presence of "marker" files or registry entries, Bitdefender mimics this inside the registry.
In depth, it connects to Bitdefender’s signature database server and compares known ransomware family strains and behaviour as if an infection already took place. It also implements various restrictions at system level, such as verifying the hosts file and tracking connections to every ransomware Command and Control server currently known to us, which the ransom malware accesses in order to receive or send encryption keys.
The Vaccine works independently and does not need any other modules, such as Advanced Threat Control, to be installed. It is switched on simply by ticking the box in the customer’s policy.
Why would you not want to enable a feature like this – or sell a solution that delivers it?
Bitdefender have updated its GravityZone cloud console with more new features you may not have seen, such as Update Rings and Anti-Exploit techniques.
